Samosas have been the popular food for centuries in the Indian Subcontinents and it is assumed that it was first originated in Central Asian back in 10th Century. Mostly samosas are available with potato fillers, but you can use vegetables and chicken in the filler to make it a healthy dish. 

What are the Key Samosa Ingredients? 

In modern-day, the term Samosa mainly refers to the entire family of pastries rather one single item. In Central Asia, the Samosa has crusts that are crumblier and thicker and the fillings are mainly meaty with onion and mince. But in India, it is the deep fried triangles that are spicy with fillings of mashed potatoes. The ingredients include pepper, coriander, caraway seeds and some other staples. This is the combination that is used across the Indian subcontinent for over hundreds of years. It may be the pastry that actually indicates the Samosa, but it is the filling that mainly defines the type of Samosa that you are having. 

The western Samosas are actually prepared with green chillies. But, in the Punjab region, you will find Samosa that is filled with paneer or cottage cheese. Other ingredients include peas which are popularly filled in Samosa along with cottage cheese. However, in Israel and the surrounding region, the peas are replaced with chickpeas.
